What is Ayurveda?
Ayurveda is an ancient Indian holistic healing system that emphasizes balance and longevity.
It is based on the principle that with a harmonious lifestyle, human beings can achieve optimal health and extended life expectancy.
Beyond promoting longevity, Ayurveda is commonly used to support conditions such as fatigue, insomnia, arthritis, heart disease, asthma, allergies, digestive issues, mental health concerns, weight management, and joint or muscular ailments.
The word Ayurveda comes from Sanskrit: Ayur = Life Veda = Knowledge or Science. Ayurveda teaches that our body and mind are governed by three vital energies, known as Doshas:
Vata (Air & Space) – Governs movement, creativity, and flexibility
Pitta (Fire & Water) – Governs digestion, metabolism, and transformation
Kapha (Earth & Water) – Governs structure, stability, and immunity
Each person has a unique combination of these Doshas. Maintaining balance between Vata, Pitta, and Kapha is essential for overall health and well-being.
While Ayurveda is a vast science with many interventions from massage to detoxification treatments, the Ayurveda practiced by Jo to achieve physical, mental, and emotional balance is primarily through diet and lifestyle.
