What is hypnosis? Hypnosis is a natural state of consciousness. We often enter a trance like hypnotic state when concnetrating or absorbed in something of interest, or when we are doing something "automatically". When using hypnosis this kind of state is created with the assistance of a therapist, utilising relaxation and attention focussing techniques. This can facilitate communication with the unconscious part of the mind to enable positive changes to be made. What happens in a hypnotherapy session? In a session the hypnotherapist works with you to help you enter a relaxed, trance like state in which you are able to respond positively to suggestions. You are not asleep but in a state of heightened awareness, You cannot be encouraged or made to do anything against your will and are always in control, able to end a session whenever you wish to. Before any treatment takes place you are able to discuss the history of the problem and agree a personalised treatment plan. What can hypnosis help with?
Hypnosis can help with many conditions including anxiety disorders, fears and phobias, stress management, confidence building, performance anxiety, smoking cessation, eating disorders and weight management, pain and discomfort, sleep problems, IBS, bereavement, birthing preparation.
