Ilkley Healing Centre

Founded in 1986 by Christine and Arthur Bailey, Ilkley Healing Centre offers practical and effective complementary therapies, training workshops and exercise classes. Here Christine describes the Centre and the ethos behind it:

A little history

The way I relate to the Healing Centre is through the people in it. They have become my family and are the heart of my life. It matters to me that everyone feels peace, love, comfort and ease here. This is our mantra, and is what the Ilkley Healing Centre is about.

The story happened through Arthur and I knowing each other over the years through our meditation teacher. I was doing colour healing, aromatherapy and massage, and Arthur was doing hands-on healing and dowsing. He was a senior lecturer in Electronics at Bradford University and was interested in the mix of mystics and science. He chose to keep his two lives separate as science didn’t approve of mystics in those days!

So Arthur and myself, and our children Becca and Rob, all started to see clients at the Centre from 1986 onwards. Our friend Anne Gray was practising homeopathy, and she became the first person outside the family to join us. Then more complementary medicine came along and we needed a name, so after much soul searching we decided on the Ilkley Healing Centre, which did seem a little pretentious at the time! The Centre has grown around us ever since.

Present day

We offer a range of therapies including Bowen Technique, Massage, Alexander Technique, Energy Psychology (EFT) and Counselling .

The building itself is a stone-built Victorian terraced house in the heart of Ilkley, converted to offer four treatment rooms and a large top floor workshop space.
